IMPORTANT: the event logistics are different from last year! The event base will be in Keswick, not Buttermere

Car: The Lake District typically is between five and six hours from London by car, two hours from York and one and a half hours from Manchester. To access Buttermere turn off at Junction 40 of the M6; Buttermere is approximately 50 minutes from the junction via the A66 to Keswick.

Public transport: arriving in Buttermere using public transport is possible but not straightforward. The Cumbria Council Journey Planning Tool is an excellent resource for exploring the available options.

Trains: Most journeys will require changing at Penrith for an onward bus to Keswick and a further bus to Buttermere. You can plan your journey using the National Rail website in conjunction with the Cumbria Council Journey Planning Tool

Plane: the nearest airports are Manchester and Glasgow.

We suggest that competitors book accommodation in Keswick as this is where the event base will be. The bag drop, race finish and post-race party will be in Crow Park, Keswick. Crow Park is within walking distance of the town centre.

July is a busy time in the Lake District so accommodation will be in demand. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

There are several websites to assist you in finding local accommodation in Keswick, including the following:
Go Lakes
Keswick Plus

Registration will take place between 16:00 and 18:30 on Friday 28th July at Keswick School, Keswick. Please ensure you have photo identification, the mandatory equipment and that your wetsuits and trainers are clean and dry. Teams will be issued with their race vests and swim caps during registration.

The Safety Brief will be held at 19:00 on Friday 28th July at Keswick School, Keswick. Teams who have not attended the Safety Brief will not be allowed to start.

Teams will be driven by coach from Keswick to the race starts.

We use cut off times to cap the time that each swim stage is open. Otherwise our water safety teams would be out on the water for too long and we'd risk people swimming after dark. Also we want to ensure that our entrants have a suitable level of fitness to safely undertake our courses. Consequently, cut off times will be strictly enforced. If you miss your cut off and continue to race you will be disqualified from this and all future Breca Swimrun events.
