IMPORTANT - BRIEFING FOR RACE DAY VOLUNTEERS

The volunteer briefing will take place on the evening of Friday 19th August at the Burtonport Welcome Centre. We will explain the race day plan, the roles, communications channels, safety procedures, and answer any questions you might have.

If you are signing up as a race day (Saturday) volunteer, it is vital that you can attend the briefing on Friday evening.   


COURSE MARKER

Date: Friday 19th August
Hours: 08:00 - 15:00

You will spend the day before the race marking the route, working in pairs. You will need suitable outdoor clothing and be confident route finding with a map and capable of hiking on the coastal trail for a few hours.

You will be briefed before heading out and don’t need to attend the Friday evening briefing.


SET UP & REGISTRATION

Date: Friday 19th August
Hours: 09:00 - 16:00
Hours: 13:00 - 20:00

You will help prepare for race day, for example setting up gazebos and flags, assembling finishers bags, preparing checkpoint equipment, preparing volunteer packed lunches. You will mainly be indoors so do not need technical outdoor clothing or skills.

If you are volunteering in the evening you will help at the race registration, checking teams off on entry lists, inspecting their kit and handing out race bibs.

You will be briefed on arrival and don’t need to attend the Friday evening briefing.


TRANSITION MARSHAL

Date: Saturday 20th August
Hours: 09:00 - 16:00
Hours: 13:00 - 20:00

As a transition marshal, you will man the swim entries and exits on the course. Working in pairs, you will record the times that teams pass the transition, guide them to the safe transition point and direct them to the next stage of the course.

You will be outdoors for most of the day so will need suitable clothing and be able to use a map. If you have a car, please let us know.

You must attend the Friday evening volunteer briefing.


CHECKPOINT MARSHAL

Date: Saturday 20th August
Hours: 09:00 - 16:00
Hours: 13:00 - 20:00

 

On checkpoints, you will set up, manage and break down the food stations on the course. Working in teams of 3-4, you will record team numbers and arrival times, help competitors to snacks and drinks and direct them to the next stage.

You will be outdoors for most of the day so will need suitable clothing and be able to use a map. If you have a car, please let us know.

You must attend the Friday evening volunteer briefing.


You will help manage the start and finish areas. Roles include handing out finishers' bags, recording times, helping competitors with queries and assisting the Race Director.

You will be outside but will not be required to hike or route-find.

START & FINISH CREW

Date: Saturday 20th August
Hours: 09:00 - 15:00
Hours: 13:00 - 20:00
 


The support car will patrol the course, supporting other volunteers, collecting any teams that withdraw and taking them to the finish area.

You will be compensated for fuel, and you must attend the Friday evening volunteer briefing.
