Breca Bay of islands

Next event: 13-14th April 2019

The Bay of Islands is iconic: famous for its white-sand beaches, pristine islands, lagoons and turquoise waters. It's an area rich in wildlife, known for its beauty and history. These courses follow the classic island-hopping swimrun format over the Bay's stunning islands, before the grand finish at the Otehei Bay island resort.

In 2019, for the first time, we'll be offering two distances:

BRECA bay of islands

Date: 14th April 2019 | Run: 25km | Swim: 8.4km | Transitions: 18 | Total: 33.4km | Total Ascent: 820m

  • Estimated completion time: 5.5-9 hours

  • Terrain: sections of technical, off-trail running; rock-hopping; island crossings; steps; steep slopes

  • Swimming: technical transitions, ocean swims, high likelihood of swell

  • Difficulty: hard. To complete this race you need a high level of fitness and should be comfortable swimming in the ocean

BRECA bay of islands SPRINT

Date: 13th April 2019 | Run: 15.5km | Swim: 4.5km | Transitions: TBC | Total: 20km | Total Ascent: TBC
Please note, the distances above are subject to change (+/- a few km). We can confirm that the course will follow the classic island-hopping format and the race start will take place directly from boats to the water!

  • Estimated completion time: 2.5-5 hours

  • Terrain: sections of technical, off-trail running; rock-hopping; island crossings; steps; steep slopes

  • Swimming: technical transitions, ocean swims, high likelihood of swell

  • Difficulty: medium. To complete this race you need a medium-to-high level of fitness and should be comfortable swimming in the ocean

Entry

Swimrun is raced in pairs - entry is for teams of two only

Breca Bay of Islands Sprint - $240-260 per person
Breca Bay of Islands -  $360-390 per person

Early bird tickets are for a limited time and quantity

The entry fee includes:

  • swim cap

  • finishers' hat

  • finishers' medals

  • race timing

  • race nutrition and hydration

  • free event photography

  • Kiwi-style BBQ at Otehei Bay

Mandatory kit

Each team must have:

  • Either two wetsuits or two sets of neoprene shorts and vests

  • Two whistles

  • Two reusable cups or flasks - any kind will be accepted, as long as they are genuinely reusable

Teams may also use tow ropes, paddles, pull buoys and fins (no longer than 15cm, measured from the toe), but they are not mandatory.
