IMPORTANT: the event logistics are different from last year!

Car: Swansea is easily accessible from the M4. To reach the city centre from Carmarthen use junction 47 and from the Cardiff direction use junction 42.

Train: There is a train station in High Street which is within walking distance of the city centre. There are high-speed First Great Western trains run from London and frequent Arriva Wales trains running from west Wales, the Marches, the Midlands and the South West. For more information, visit the National Rail enquiries website.

Coach and bus: Greyhound operate a frequent shuttle service between Cardiff, Swansea and Bristol airport. There are frequent National Express coaches to Swansea from all other principal towns in south and west Wales. The National Express also has links with London and Heathrow and Gatwick airports.  Visit the National Express or Greyhound websites.

Plane: the nearest airport is Cardiff International Airport. Swansea has its own airport, which is suitable for small aircraft.

parking and getting to Underhill Park

Parking at Underhill Park is limited. There is a small car park – the entrance is AFTER the park if approaching from Mumbles; please do not attempt to drive down the first access road which has no parking and limited turning space. If you can, please leave cars at your accommodation or park in public car parks in Mumbles. You will NOT be allowed to park at Underhill Park if the car park is full.

From Mumbles, it is an easy 10-minute walk to Underhill Park along Newton Road.

If you plan to be dropped off or collected at Underhill Park, please read the advice on this in the “Race Start” and “Race Finish” sections.

We suggest that competitors book accommodation near Swansea and The Mumbles. Registration, the race brief, the race finish and post-race party will be in this area, and there will be coaches from Mumbles to the race start.

July is a busy time in Gower so accommodation will be in demand. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

Visit the Swansea Bay or website for links to accommodation providers and to make the most of your stay.

Registration and the race brief will take place at L’Horizon Hotel, St Brelade.

Breca Gower Sprint registration is from 08:00 on Saturday 7th July, followed by the race brief at 09:30.

You may wear your kit to the registration and briefing to avoid having to get changed, but there are changing facilities at Underhill Park, if you wish to use them.

Breca Gower registration is from 17:00 on Saturday 7th July, followed by the race brief at 19:00.

Please register with your partner and BRING YOUR MANDATORY KIT. If you do not bring these items with you, you will have to go and get them. You will not be allowed to register without them. This is critical especially for the sprint race as you will miss the race start.

What to Bring: Every competitor must present:

  • Photo identification
  • Whistle
  • Reusable cup or flask – read about our pioneering “cup free” race sustainability initiative. We will accept any type but it must be reasonably robust.
  • Wetsuit.

You will be issued with your race vests and swim caps during registration.

You MUST attend your race brief, where we will give you vital information about the course and race logistics.

NOTE: please arrive at the start changed and ready to race. There are no changing facilities at the start and if you use the cafés or public toilet facilities we will lose our event permit.

We recommend that you use the complimentary competitor coach service that we are providing to transport teams to the race starts.

You will not be able to leave anything on the coaches; board the coach changed and ready to race, and leave your drop bags at Underhill Park before departure.

Breca Gower Sprint

The Sprint distance race start is at Oxwich Bay. Coaches will depart from Underhill Park after the race registration and briefing, at 10:45.

If you plan to leave a car or be dropped off at the start instead, please use the pay-on-entry car park for Oxwich Beach and arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time to collect a tracker.

Breca Gower

Coaches for the full distance race start will depart from Underhill Park at 06:00 on Sunday 8th.

If you plan to leave a car or be dropped off at the start instead, please use the pay and display National Trust car park at Rhossili and arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time to collect a tracker.

You may leave a small drop bag at Underhill Park before you board the coach.

We recommend a change of clothes, shoes, money and a towel so that you can join us at the post-race social. There will be event staff in the area but bags will not be attended at all times and you leave them at your own risk.

If you arrive at the start under your own steam (not on the complimentary coaches), you will not be able to leave a drop bag there.

RACE FINISH and social

Both races finish at Underhill Park.

There will be a bar and BBQ available for a post-race social on both days.

POST-race bbq

If you plan to be collected at the finish, please note that there is limited parking at Underhill Park and vehicular access is restricted. Arrange a pick-up on Newton Road, or Langland Road, instead, or walk to Mumbles.

We use cut off times to make sure that everyone completes the race safely and before dark. Cut offs are also critical for our safety plan for boats and the medical team. Consequently, cut off times will be strictly enforced. If you miss a cut off and continue to race you will be disqualified from this and all future Breca Swimrun events.

Cut off times are enforced at checkpoints and at swim entries. Checkpoint cut off times are listed below.

There are five checkpoints on the Breca Gower course and two on the sprint course. Locations are viewable on the website course maps.

Supporters are more than welcome to attend the event and we hope to see you especially at the finish lines and the post-race socials.

We have produced a Spectator Guide that you can download and print.

We ask that you observe the following advice:

  • Please do not accompany competitors to the race registration and briefing. The venue is not big enough.
  • Please use designated public car parks and DO NOT park on roadsides around the course, or on private property.
